Started: 2016
Completed: 2018
Client: Meyer Homes

Jordan+Bateman Architects were appointed as Client Monitoring Architect to assist with the delivery of ten townhouses, 48 apartments and for retail units.

Two locally listed gatehouses will be retained on the site and used as an entrance gateway to the mews development behind. The residential buildings pick up the scale and rhythm of adjacent buildings to complement the existing form of the area.

We verified compliance with Employer’s, planning and statutory requirements and we added value to the project, for example by finding volume within the approved scheme for two additional apartments and follow the detailed design in coordination with Client and Contractor’s Design Team.

We used BIM software for the production of accurate datasheets for areas, plot data, density, amenity spaces etc. and terrain-analysis software to optimize the alignment of roads and infrastructure, coordinating our design with the civil engineers’ information.

British Embassy and Ambassador’s Residence Paris

path2993

Started: 2014
In Progress
Client: Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK Govt.

Jordan+Bateman Architects are lead designers and Architects for the refurbishment of the British Chancery and Ambassador’s Residence in Paris.
The buildings are of great architectural, artistic and historical importance.
The numerous fine rooms make the upgrading of services, like renewing of mechanical and electrical systems, very challenging.

Whilst works are undertaken the Embassy will be fully functional: this requires an articulated phasing plan to allow for the majority of the premises to be safely accessible and ensuring the protection and preservation of artworks and fine details.

Photographs displayed were taken by Francis Hammond and published on the book “The British Ambassador’s Residence in Paris” by Tim Knox.

Newmarket Housing

Newmarket Housing, 2008, Newmarket, UK, Residential
path2993

Started: 2005
Completed: 2008
Client: Tutis Development Ltd

Sitting on a former builders’ yard in Falmouth Street, the scheme delivered a total of 21 dwellings in Newmarket.

The scale of the development fits comfortably within the suburban character of the area. Traffic calming measures were introduced on the access road to mitigate the additional traffic generated by the development.

The sharp edges, projecting thin roof eaves and cantilevering elements combine within a contemporary language, the chosen traditional material palette.
Dwellings are accessed via an intimate shared-surface mews that forms the backbone of the settlement. The mews provides a landscaping area with excellent passive surveillance level. A gentle slope of the land was dealt with through a simple stepping of the units, breaking down the roofscape.

A large part of the development (14 dwellings out of 21) are managed by a subsidiary of the Suffolk Housing Society, helping those who want rented homes in the private sector to obtain good quality accommodation in partnership with local landlords.
The remainder have been sold to private buyers.
